Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has publicly questioned the electoral significance of former President Olusegun Obasanjo, asserting that he lacks the ability to sway the outcome of the upcoming 2027 presidential election. This statement came during a press interaction on Wednesday, where Atiku addressed reports indicating Obasanjo's refusal to endorse his candidacy.

Atiku stated, "In 1999, he could not even win his own state or the Southwest; it was Arewa that made him President. He possesses no electoral value." This remark underscores the strained relationship between the two politicians, who previously served together as President and Vice President from 1999 to 2007. Their political paths have diverged significantly since leaving office, particularly following Atiku's opposition to Obasanjo's controversial bid for a third term, which he believed threatened Nigeria's constitutional integrity.

The former Vice President emphasized that he is not concerned with Obasanjo's endorsement, focusing instead on his own political agenda and the support he has garnered from the northern electorate. Atiku's comments highlight a broader strategy as he prepares for the 2027 elections, where he aims to appeal to young Nigerians by showcasing his record of empowering the youth during his vice presidency.

He noted that many individuals who benefited from opportunities created during his tenure have since ascended to significant roles in governance, including positions as governors, ministers, and directors. Atiku reiterated his commitment to fostering an environment where young Nigerians can thrive and take on leadership roles if he is elected in the upcoming election.

As the political landscape evolves ahead of the 2027 elections, Atiku's remarks reflect a calculated approach to galvanize support by challenging the influence of established political figures like Obasanjo, while also positioning himself as a champion of youth empowerment and opportunity.
