In a significant move to address food insecurity in Katsina State, Governor Dikko Radda has commenced the distribution of 90,000 bags of assorted grains to vulnerable households across all 34 Local Government Areas. The initiative was launched during a ceremony held in Kaita Local Government Area on Wednesday, aimed at providing immediate relief to families grappling with economic hardships.

Governor Radda emphasized the importance of ensuring that the grains reach the intended beneficiaries without any form of discrimination or diversion. He stated, "Our philosophy has remained clear: development must reach the grassroots, and the people must feel the presence and impact of government in their communities and daily lives."

This grain distribution is part of a broader social intervention program that the Radda administration has been implementing. Previously, the government supported women in various businesses during Ramadan and assisted 7,220 widows by providing them with 25kg bags of rice and N10,000 cash each.

The governor acknowledged the role of the Aliko Dangote Foundation in bolstering food security efforts in the state through rice distribution to vulnerable residents. He noted that lessons learned from past distributions have helped improve the grassroots distribution mechanism, particularly through Community Level Committees. Radda remarked, "The objective is not simply to distribute more, but to distribute better to improve targeting, strengthen accountability and ensure that government support reaches those for whom it is intended."

While highlighting the immediate relief provided by the grain distribution, Radda pointed out that such palliative measures alone cannot solve the underlying issues of food insecurity. His administration is pursuing a dual approach that combines immediate relief with sustainable economic empowerment. This includes supporting farmers with subsidized fertilizers and expanding irrigation systems through solar and petrol-powered pumps, tube wells, and other interventions.

Radda stated, "These investments are deliberately designed to strengthen food production because the most sustainable response to food insecurity is to empower our farmers to produce more food, reduce the cost of production, create rural employment and improve household incomes."

The governor also directed local government officials, traditional and religious leaders, and community-level committees to ensure fairness and transparency in the distribution process. He warned against allowing personal relationships or social status to interfere with access to the grains for deserving citizens.

Kamaladden Kabir, the State Coordinator of the Community Development Programme, reiterated the administration's commitment to bringing government programs closer to citizens. He emphasized that the distribution is not just about providing food but ensuring that support reaches communities in an organized and inclusive manner.

Bello Lawal, the Chairman of Kaita LGA, praised the initiative as timely and beneficial, noting that the Radda administration has also made strides in agriculture, education, healthcare, and social welfare. "We are really happy with this initiative. We appreciate the efforts of the administration and will continue to support its programs," he added.
