Dr. Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, the National Chairman of the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), has made a bold prediction regarding the 2027 general elections, asserting that President Bola Tinubu would face defeat by 4 pm if the polls are conducted in a credible, free, and fair manner. Baba-Ahmed expressed his views during an appearance on Channels Television's Politics Today, where he criticized the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) as a party that is self-destructing.

Baba-Ahmed pointed to the recent victory of Governor Ademola Adeleke in the Osun State governorship election as evidence that the APC can be defeated. He noted that the election showcased a significant shift in voter sentiment, as the APC was decisively beaten without any apparent coalition or collaboration against it. He stated, "APC was trounced in Osun. We didn’t even see a coalition or collaboration or a gang-up against the APC. Parties all competed against one another. Yet, APC was defeated."

The PRP chairman dismissed rumors of a deal between President Tinubu and Governor Adeleke, emphasizing that the Accord Party's victory was a clear indication of the APC's vulnerabilities. He remarked, "There’s no reason why this cannot repeat itself at a national level."

Baba-Ahmed further elaborated on the internal struggles within the APC, describing it as a "monster eating itself up and eating everybody up." He pointed out that despite the party's control over the National Assembly and the support of 31 state governors, President Tinubu remains uneasy, suggesting that the current state of the nation under his leadership has worsened.

He stated, "You have a president who believes he must have all the power around him. He appears to have garnered the support of 31 governors and quite possibly about 75 percent of the National Assembly, yet he’s still uncomfortable. It’s politically monstrous."

Addressing the role of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Baba-Ahmed expressed skepticism about the commission's ability to conduct a credible election, stating, "Nobody should praise INEC until it can actually conduct an election in which the President is a contestant. I hope the election will be credible, free and fair. If it’s not, I foresee a very serious threat to Nigeria’s democracy."

As the political landscape in Nigeria continues to evolve, Baba-Ahmed's comments highlight the growing discontent with the current administration and the potential for significant shifts in voter behavior leading up to the 2027 elections.
