Dalung predicts Tinubu's defeat in 2027 despite political maneuvers
Former Minister Solomon Dalung asserts that the Osun governorship election foreshadows Tinubu's challenges in 2027.

Former Minister of Youth and Sports Development, Solomon Dalung, has expressed strong convictions regarding the political landscape leading up to the 2027 presidential elections, suggesting that recent events in Osun State signal significant challenges for President Bola Tinubu. Dalung, a prominent member of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), made these comments during an interview on Channels Television's The Morning Brief.
Dalung pointed to the recent governorship election in Osun as a pivotal moment that demonstrated the potential for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to be defeated at the polls. He emphasized that the results from Osun serve as a clear indication of the electorate's determination to uphold democratic values, despite what he termed the "federal might" wielded by the ruling party.
In his remarks, Dalung stated, "What happened in Osun is a confirmation of what I said two years ago, that even if Tinubu appointed his wife, Remi Tinubu, as Chief Justice of Nigeria and appointed Seyi, his son, as INEC chairman, he is going to be defeated woefully in 2027." This assertion underscores his belief that the political machinery and influence of the APC will not guarantee electoral success in the upcoming elections.
He elaborated on the implications of the Osun election, arguing that the presence of high-profile political figures and resources deployed by the APC did not translate into victory. Despite the mobilization of significant political capital, including the involvement of governors and members of the National Assembly, the APC suffered a notable defeat, which Dalung described as a "humiliating loss."
Dalung also took the opportunity to critique the comments made by Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, regarding the APC's performance in Osun. He challenged Wike to account for the resources expended by the APC during the campaign rather than shifting blame onto the ADC.
Looking ahead to 2027, Dalung asserted that the election would hinge not only on the candidates but also on the choices made by the Nigerian electorate. He noted that regional dynamics and the performance of President Tinubu would play critical roles in shaping voter sentiment. "In 2027, regionalism is going to be a factor in the determination of the election. The President’s performance is going to be an issue," he stated.
Dalung remains resolute in his prediction that Tinubu will face defeat in the upcoming elections, arguing that the governors who have recently joined the APC will not be sufficient to secure victory for the president. He characterized their gatherings as "gatherings of mourners," indicating a lack of confidence in their ability to rally support for Tinubu.
Beyond the political predictions, Dalung called for improved leadership in Nigeria, urging politicians to prioritize their responsibilities to the citizens. He emphasized the importance of building a legacy that transcends wealth accumulation, advocating for leaders who are genuinely committed to the welfare of the people and the principles of democracy. "If we have leaders that believe in the people and their constitutional responsibilities, they will definitely do that," he concluded.
