APGA candidate demands investigation into murder of supporter in Ebonyi State
Barrister Tochukwu Ogalagu calls for justice following the death of Elder Onwe Ubochi.

The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) candidate for the Ebonyi/Ohaukwu Federal Constituency in the upcoming 2027 elections, Barrister Tochukwu Ogalagu, has urged authorities to conduct a thorough investigation into the murder of Elder Onwe Ubochi. Ubochi was found dead after attending a rally organized by the party in Ohaukwu Local Government Area on August 17, 2026.
According to reports, Ubochi, a resident of Osege Village, participated in a prayer session supporting APGA candidates before heading home alone. His family reported him missing later that night, prompting a search that lasted until his body was discovered in a stream near his home. Ogalagu described the incident as “gruesome and dastardly,” calling for immediate action from the police and other security agencies to ensure justice is served.
In a statement released in Abakaliki, Ogalagu expressed his condolences to Ubochi's family and emphasized the need for a professional investigation to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the murder. He stated, "No stone will be left unturned in the investigation of this dastardly murder, and the person or persons involved will surely face the law."
Ogalagu alleged that Ubochi's death might be linked to political threats that have surfaced in the constituency as the election approaches. He highlighted the importance of maintaining peace and urged supporters not to succumb to intimidation or violence. He insisted that the democratic process must prevail without bloodshed, stating, "No amount of threats, intimidation, political conspiracy or shedding of innocent blood will be enough to stop an idea whose time has come for fulfilment."
The incident has raised concerns among residents, especially in light of reports circulating on social media that warned against supporting opposition candidates in the upcoming elections. These reports allege that some political stakeholders in Ohaukwu issued threats to those who might back candidates from rival parties. However, these claims have not been independently verified.
As political activities intensify in Ebonyi State ahead of the 2027 general elections, Ogalagu has called on all political actors to prioritize peace and respect for the rule of law. He reassured Ubochi's family that justice would be pursued through lawful means and prayed for the peaceful repose of the deceased's soul. The APGA candidate's call for an investigation underscores the growing tensions in the region as various parties ramp up their campaigns and mobilization efforts for the elections.
