Fayose accuses Makinde of causing PDP's woes, claims he left party for him
Ayodele Fayose reveals his departure from PDP was due to Seyi Makinde's ambition, claiming he left the party's remnants behind.

Former Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose has publicly criticized his counterpart in Oyo State, Seyi Makinde, attributing the challenges faced by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to Makinde's ambition. Fayose made these remarks during an appearance on TVC's Politics Tonight, where he elaborated on his decision to leave the PDP, which he described as a 'carcass'.
Fayose expressed that Makinde's aspirations have significantly contributed to the party's difficulties, particularly during the recent elections. He pointed out that the issues within the PDP were evident when the G-5 group, which included prominent party members, failed to achieve their goals in the 2023 elections. "The question Nigerians should ask us is: what went wrong under the G-5?" he questioned, implying that Makinde's ambition played a pivotal role in the party's disarray.
The former governor recounted a specific incident when he confronted Makinde about a campaign flyer that promoted him as a presidential candidate. Fayose claimed that Makinde assured him that he would not support efforts that would pit one Yoruba candidate against another, specifically referencing President Bola Tinubu. "He told me that if he wanted to contest, he would say it himself and he would not be the Yoruba man who would be used against another Yoruba man like Asiwaju. God is my witness, and let him deny it," Fayose stated.
Fayose's comments reflect a growing rift within the PDP, as he accused Makinde of taking control of the party's structure in Ekiti State, which he felt was unjust. "Makinde took the whole structure of PDP from me and gave it to some characters that I don’t want to talk about, so I left the carcass of the party for him," he added, highlighting his discontent with the current state of the party.
This public fallout between the two governors underscores the ongoing struggles within the PDP as it seeks to regain its footing in Nigerian politics. Fayose's accusations against Makinde not only reveal personal grievances but also signal deeper issues within the party that may affect its future strategies and unity as they head into upcoming elections.
