The Borno State Police Command has successfully recovered an unexploded hand grenade from a drainage slab in the Moduganari area of Maiduguri, the state capital. This significant recovery took place on August 15, 2026, following a report made to the police around 12:40 PM.

Nahum Daso, the Public Relations Officer for the Borno State Police, confirmed the incident in a statement released on Saturday. The police acted swiftly upon receiving information about a suspected unexploded ordnance (UXO) located on the drainage slab, mobilizing operatives from the EOD-CBRN Base 13 to the scene.

According to the police statement, the operatives, under the directive of Commissioner of Police Naziru Abdulmajid, successfully secured the grenade for further examination. The police have initiated an investigation to determine the origin of the device and the circumstances that led to its discovery.
