The governorship candidate for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kaduna State, Usman Shehu Bawa, has announced the suspension of all campaign activities after a tragic motor accident resulted in the deaths of three party members. The victims were returning home after attending a party meeting when the accident occurred.

In a statement released by his spokesperson, Yusuf Idris, Bawa expressed profound sorrow over the loss of his colleagues. He confirmed that the inauguration of his campaign council, along with other planned activities for Saturday, would be postponed indefinitely. Bawa acknowledged the inconvenience this decision might cause to those who were invited to the events.

The deceased members have been identified as Caleb Ishaya Alot, the Secretary of the PDP in Jema’a Local Government Area, Mercy Achi, the Women Leader of Wise Ward, and Charity Bahago, also a member of the PDP from Wise Ward. Bawa referred to their deaths as a significant loss not only to their families but also to the entire PDP community in Kaduna State.

In his statement, Bawa conveyed his condolences to the bereaved families and the people of Jema’a Local Government Area, emphasizing the collective grief felt within the party. He also extended prayers for the quick recovery of those who sustained injuries in the accident, highlighting the need for support and solidarity during this difficult time.

The incident has cast a shadow over the PDP's campaign efforts in the lead-up to the 2027 gubernatorial election, as the party mourns the loss of its dedicated members.
