14-year-old girl injured in gunfire during farmer-herder clash in Nasarawa
Amina Ya’u was shot as armed herders attacked farmers in Majelisa village.

A 14-year-old girl named Amina Ya’u has been hospitalized after sustaining gunshot injuries during an attack by suspected armed herders on farmers in Majelisa village, located along the border of Nasarawa and Plateau states. The incident occurred around 6:30 AM on November 5, following reports of sporadic gunfire in the area.
Security sources revealed that troops from Sector 9 of Operation Enduring Peace (OPEP), stationed at Jenta, responded promptly to a distress call and rushed to the scene. Upon arrival, they discovered Amina with gunshot wounds, while the assailants had already fled the area. Preliminary investigations suggest that the violence erupted due to a disagreement over grazing activities between the herders and the farmers.
The injured girl was quickly evacuated to the General Hospital in Lafia, Nasarawa State, where she is currently receiving medical treatment. In the wake of the attack, security forces have intensified patrols and increased their presence in the region to deter further violence and prevent escalation of the ongoing disputes.
Efforts are underway to engage with local Fulani leaders in hopes of identifying and apprehending the fleeing suspects. This incident adds to the growing list of violent clashes reported in Nigeria’s North-Central region, where tensions between herders and farming communities have been escalating for years.
The conflict over land use and grazing rights has historically led to fatalities, destruction of farmland, and loss of livestock in the area. As these disputes continue to unfold, the need for effective conflict resolution and security measures becomes increasingly critical to safeguard the lives and livelihoods of those affected.
