Gunmen kill two herders and several cattle in Plateau State attack
A violent attack in Plateau State has left two herders dead and numerous cattle lost, raising security concerns.

A tragic incident unfolded in the Tafawa community of Riyom Local Government Area, Plateau State, where gunmen attacked on Wednesday night, resulting in the deaths of two herders and the loss of several cattle. The attack has raised alarms regarding the safety of herders in the region.
Ibrahim Yusuf Babayo, the Plateau State Chairman of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN), confirmed the incident to journalists on Thursday. He reported that the assailants invaded the victims' home, fatally shooting the two men before fleeing the scene, leaving the community in shock and mourning.
Babayo expressed deep concern over the increasing frequency of attacks on Fulani communities in Plateau State. He emphasized the need for accountability, urging security agencies to take immediate action against those responsible for the violence. "We will not remain silent over the continued loss of lives," he stated, highlighting the urgency of the situation.
The MACBAN chairman called on the General Officer Commanding of the 3 Division of the Nigerian Army, as well as the Commander of Operation Enduring Peace, to prioritize the identification and arrest of the attackers. He also appealed for a stronger security presence in Tafawa and other vulnerable areas to deter future incidents.
This attack is part of a troubling trend in the region, where herders have faced increasing violence. Community leaders and local residents are increasingly anxious about their safety and the protection of their livelihoods, particularly in light of the recent escalation of such attacks.
As the investigation unfolds, the call for enhanced security measures and accountability remains a pressing concern for the affected communities in Plateau State.
