A 36-year-old Nigerian was arrested in Phuket with cocaine and packaging tools.

Authorities in Phuket, Thailand have apprehended a 36-year-old Nigerian man on allegations of possessing cocaine intended for distribution. The arrest took place on Thursday, November 5, 2026, by the Cherng Talay Police, who acted on intelligence regarding drug-related activities in the area.
During the operation, law enforcement officials confiscated approximately 7.3 grams of cocaine, classified as a Category 2 narcotic. In addition to the drugs, police found 257 plastic bags that are believed to be used for packaging the narcotics, along with two digital scales, two mobile phones, and a sedan. These items suggest that the suspect was involved in a larger drug distribution network.
The Nigerian national has been formally charged with possessing a Category 2 narcotic with the intent to sell without the necessary licenses. Following his arrest, he was transferred to investigators who will continue the legal proceedings against him.
This incident highlights ongoing concerns regarding drug trafficking in Thailand, particularly involving foreign nationals. Authorities have ramped up efforts to combat drug-related crimes, which remain a significant issue in the region. The Thai government has implemented strict laws against drug possession and distribution, often resulting in severe penalties for offenders.
As investigations proceed, the police are expected to delve deeper into the suspect's connections and any potential accomplices involved in the drug trade. The case underscores the challenges faced by law enforcement in curbing the flow of illegal drugs within the country, as well as the international dimensions of drug trafficking networks.
