Eight lives lost in Turkey shooting spree; authorities launch manhunt for suspect
A tragic shooting incident in Turkey's Afyonkarahisar province has resulted in eight fatalities and one serious injury.

A mass shooting in west-central Turkey has claimed the lives of eight individuals and left one person critically injured. The incident occurred on Thursday in three villages near Afyonkarahisar, a town situated between the capital Ankara and the coastal city of Izmir.
Local officials reported that the attacks resulted in a significant loss of life, with the Afyonkarahisar governor's office confirming the fatalities. The violence unfolded in a rural area, where two women were discovered with gunshot wounds on a road in Yukaritandir village. Despite immediate medical attention, both succumbed to their injuries shortly after being rushed to the hospital.
In addition to the casualties in Yukaritandir, three more bodies were located in Kiyir village, approximately a half-hour drive northeast of Yukaritandir, and another three were found in Ayazini village, which is another half-hour drive east. The identity of the critically injured person remains undisclosed, but they are reportedly fighting for their life in a local hospital.
Authorities have launched a major manhunt for the gunman responsible for the attacks. Turkish media released grainy CCTV footage showing a suspect dressed in a black jacket and white trousers, armed with a rifle and standing near a faded red minivan. This vehicle was later discovered abandoned and stuck in the mud on the outskirts of Eskisehir, a university town located about 100 kilometers (60 miles) north of the shooting sites. Reports indicate that the suspect fled the scene on foot.
Investigators are also exploring potential links between this shooting and a prior incident in Afyonkarahisar, where a woman was shot and seriously injured while in her car. The ongoing investigation aims to determine if there are any connections between these violent events.
The tragic shooting in Turkey adds to a troubling pattern of gun violence, which has recently seen other incidents reported, including a shooting in Lagos State, Nigeria, where three homeless men were killed while sleeping at a bus stop. These events highlight the urgent need for addressing gun violence and ensuring public safety both in Turkey and globally.
