Three individuals have been taken into custody following the tragic death of 26-year-old non-league footballer Ezekiel Williams in Milton Keynes, UK. Williams succumbed to injuries sustained during an assault that occurred in the early hours of Sunday, November 1, on Midsummer Boulevard. His death was confirmed by Thames Valley Police, who have since initiated a murder investigation.
Among those arrested are two men aged 21 and 28 from Luton, suspected of being directly involved in the murder. A third man, aged 30, also from Luton, has been detained on suspicion of assisting an offender. All three suspects remain in police custody as investigations continue.
Williams, who hailed from London, had recently joined Kettering Town FC for the 2024-25 season. The club expressed their sorrow over his sudden passing, describing him as a "talented, kind, and truly inspirational individual." In a heartfelt tribute, Kettering Town FC highlighted Williams' leadership qualities and his warm personality, stating, "Ezekiel showed great leadership qualities from the get-go at his time here, and his humble approach made him a highly popular member of the dressing room." The club also announced the establishment of a GoFundMe page in his memory, emphasizing that he would be "sadly missed" by the football community.
Detective Inspector Rob Underhill, leading the investigation, expressed condolences to Williams' family and friends during this difficult time. He mentioned that specially trained family liaison officers are providing support to the grieving family as they navigate their loss. Underhill reassured the public that there is no wider risk to the community and that police presence will be heightened in the area to address any concerns.
Authorities are urging anyone who was in the vicinity of Midsummer Boulevard and The Hub between 1 am and 2 am on Sunday to come forward with information.
