A tragic incident unfolded on Tuesday in the Abeda Shitile community of Gaambe-Tiev Ward, Logo Local Government Area, Benue State, where at least four individuals, including a clergyman, lost their lives in an attack attributed to suspected armed herders. Reports indicate that the assault occurred around 5 PM, coinciding with the time when traders and residents were concluding their activities at the local market.

According to a resident who identified himself as Andy, the attackers unleashed a barrage of gunfire, causing widespread panic as people fled in various directions to escape the violence. He recounted, "Suddenly, we heard heavy gunshots, and people began running in different directions to escape. The gunmen operated for more than two hours, leaving residents scampering for safety as sporadic gunshots echoed across the community."

The deceased have been identified as Msoo Chan, Pastor Terungwa Tyonungo, Suurshater Iornumbe, and Dodo Shingir. Following the attack, their bodies were retrieved and taken to a local morgue. Additionally, eight individuals sustained injuries during the incident, with reports confirming that they are currently receiving medical attention at a nearby health facility. The injured have been named as Kumater Awua, Miracle Gangera, Tsetim Terungwa, Iortyom Helen, Seember Aondongu, Kofi Aondosoo, Chuku Okoro, and Orker Iortyom.

In contrast to local accounts, the Police Public Relations Officer in Benue State, DSP Peter Aondongu, provided a different casualty figure, stating that three people were killed and five others injured during the attack. He noted that three of the injured succumbed to their wounds while being transported to the hospital, while two others remain under care.

This incident adds to the ongoing concerns regarding security in the region, where clashes between herders and local communities have become increasingly common. Residents have expressed their fears over the rising violence, calling for urgent intervention to restore peace and safety in their communities.
