Ghana Police apprehend three Nigerians linked to bank customer robberies
Three Nigerian nationals have been arrested in Ghana for allegedly robbing bank customers in Kumasi.

The Ghana Police Service has detained three Nigerian nationals suspected of being part of a criminal syndicate involved in a series of robberies targeting bank customers in the Ashanti Region. The suspects, identified as Aboy Promise, 30, Favour Uwalaka, 45, and Kingsley, 35, were arrested following an intelligence-led operation that took place on October 31, 2026.
The operation, executed by a special team from the Inspector-General of Police, included personnel from the Anti-Armed Robbery Unit and the Accra Regional Police Intelligence Directorate. The police confirmed the arrests in a statement issued on November 3, 2026, by Superintendent Godwin Ahianyo, the Head of the Public Affairs Unit.
The initial arrests occurred at a hotel in Moshie Zongo, where police discovered GH¢1,600 in cash, various mobile phones, a Royal motorcycle, and a master key believed to have been used to access vehicles belonging to bank customers. During questioning, the suspects allegedly confessed to their involvement in the robberies and named two additional accomplices, including Kingsley and a fourth suspect known as Chinedu, who is currently on the run.
Following the leads provided by the detained suspects, police conducted further operations that led to Kingsley's arrest at another hotel in Dechemso, a suburb of Kumasi. Meanwhile, authorities are actively seeking Chinedu and have urged the public to assist in his capture.
Investigations have revealed that the criminal group monitored banking activities, specifically targeting customers who withdrew large sums of money. They would follow these individuals and rob them shortly after they left the bank. The suspects are also accused of breaking into unattended vehicles using the master key to steal cash and valuables.
The police disclosed that the group was involved in a robbery on October 27, 2026, where they allegedly stole GH¢15,000 from a bank customer shortly after the victim withdrew the funds from Kwamang Rural Bank. Similar incidents have been reported around the Atonsu branch of Fidelity Bank and the Ahodwo branch of Access Bank, among other locations in Kumasi.
The three arrested suspects have been transferred to the Ashanti Regional Police Command, where they are assisting with ongoing investigations. In light of these events, the police have advised bank customers to remain vigilant, especially when withdrawing large amounts of cash, and to be wary of suspicious individuals in the vicinity of banking institutions.
Additionally, motorists are warned against leaving cash and valuables unattended in their vehicles. The police have encouraged anyone with information regarding the whereabouts of the fugitive suspect, Chinedu, to report to the nearest police station or contact the Ghana Police Service through its emergency numbers. The police reiterated their commitment to combating robbery and other criminal activities in the Ashanti Region, while also thanking the community for their cooperation.
