A ponmo seller in Akure, Ondo State, collapsed in court during her arraignment after being charged with operating a processing center where human feces were found. The incident occurred on Tuesday, just days after an environmental sanitation inspection led by Hon. Gbenga Fasua, the Chairman of Akure South Local Government Area, uncovered the disturbing findings at her business premises.

The inspection took place during the monthly environmental sanitation exercise on October 28, where Fasua and his monitoring team assessed compliance with sanitation regulations in the area. They discovered two buckets containing human feces at the ponmo supply store located on Igboliki Street. This shocking revelation prompted immediate action, leading to the closure of the store and the disposal of all ponmo products on site.

The ponmo seller, who has been identified as the President of the Ponmo Sellers' Association in Ondo State, operated her business for over 21 years in the community. Following the inspection, she was arrested and charged under local and state environmental laws, which aim to uphold public health and safety standards.

During her court appearance, the seller reportedly fainted, prompting concern among those present. The incident highlights the serious implications of neglecting sanitation practices in food processing and the potential health risks posed to consumers.

Authorities have reiterated the importance of compliance with environmental regulations to ensure public health safety. The case has drawn attention to the need for stricter monitoring of food processing businesses in the region, especially those dealing with consumables like ponmo, which is widely consumed in Nigeria.

As the legal proceedings unfold, the community awaits further developments regarding the seller's fate and the measures that will be taken to prevent such incidents in the future.
