The Nigerian naira experienced a modest recovery against the United States dollar on November 3, 2026, closing at ₦1,346.93 per dollar. This increase of approximately ₦1.01 was attributed to enhanced foreign exchange liquidity and fresh inflows into the market, offering some relief to businesses and households ahead of the festive season.

Data from the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) indicated that the naira's appreciation came after a significant intervention in the foreign exchange market, where the apex bank injected $950 million to alleviate liquidity pressures. This strategic move aimed to improve dollar availability rather than maintain a fixed exchange rate, reflecting the CBN's response to the fluctuating demands of the market.

Interbank dollar transactions surged by an impressive 447%, rising from $21.765 million in the previous session to nearly $119 million. The number of transactions also saw a significant boost, increasing from 23 to 117 deals. This uptick in activity suggests a stronger participation from market operators and an improved liquidity scenario, which is crucial for stabilizing the naira.

The new exchange rate was a welcome development for importers and Nigerians needing dollars for international transactions, especially with the Christmas and New Year festivities approaching. The naira traded within a narrow range of ₦1,334 to ₦1,349.50 during the trading session, reflecting better dollar availability supported by foreign portfolio investments and corporate transactions.

While the recovery of the naira is encouraging, analysts caution that the currency remains vulnerable to seasonal demand and shifts in investment flows. The recent appreciation does not guarantee immediate reductions in consumer prices, as the market dynamics continue to evolve. Importers, manufacturers, and households are hopeful that sustained improvements in the naira's value could ease the burden of rising costs associated with dollar-denominated expenses, including imported goods and overseas tuition payments.

Despite the positive movement in the naira, global oil prices have seen a decline, with Brent crude settling at $103.60 per barrel. Given Nigeria's reliance on crude oil earnings for foreign exchange inflows, developments in the international oil market will continue to play a critical role in shaping the naira's performance.

In summary, while the naira's recent gains against the dollar are a step in the right direction, market participants remain watchful of ongoing fluctuations and the impact of CBN's liquidity management strategies on future exchange rate stability.
