Ekiti State University (EKSU) in Ado Ekiti has received the green light from the National Universities Commission (NUC) to introduce six new academic programmes. This announcement was made following a letter dated October 22, 2026, from the NUC, signed by Dr. Ayuba Mohammed, the Acting Director of Academic Planning.

The newly approved programmes include BA in Christian Theology, BSc in Transport Management, BSc in Security and Investment Management, BSc in Information and Communication Technology, BSc in Industrial Mathematics, and BSc in Criminology. The university has indicated that prospective students will be able to apply for admission into these programmes starting from the 2027/2028 academic session.

In a statement released by Adedoyin A.A., representing the university’s Head of Information and Corporate Affairs, it was noted that the approval came after a thorough resource verification visit by expert panels. These panels assessed both the human and material resources available at EKSU to ensure that they met the national academic standards set by the NUC.

The university highlighted that this milestone is a testament to its commitment to expanding educational opportunities and addressing the changing needs of society and industry. The NUC's approval letter also specified that the programmes are not permitted for part-time delivery and must retain their approved titles.

The Vice-Chancellor of EKSU, Prof. Babatola Ayodele, expressed his excitement regarding the approval, calling it a significant advancement towards fulfilling the university’s vision of academic excellence and innovation. He also extended his gratitude to Ekiti State Governor Biodun Oyebanji for his ongoing support, emphasizing that this approval reflects the governor's dedication to enhancing the university's academic standards and global relevance.
