MIMS Chairman urges youth to actively contribute to Nigeria's development now
At a recent event in Lagos, Prince Adesegun Ogungbayi emphasized the vital role of youth in shaping Nigeria's future.

Prince Adesegun Ogungbayi, the chairman of MIMS Educational Resources Limited, has called on Nigerian youth to take an active role in the nation's development rather than waiting until adulthood. Speaking at the Nigeria Is Ours National Development Conversation and Book Presentation on October 24, 2026, in Ogba, Lagos, Ogungbayi highlighted the importance of education and mentorship in empowering young people.
The event, organized by journalist Ridwan Adeola Yusuf, focused on the theme "Reimagining Leadership, Citizenship and Security for National Development." Ogungbayi, who served as the chairman for the occasion, emphasized that every Nigerian child deserves access to quality education, regardless of their background. He stated, "When you invest in one young Nigerian, you secure the future of the entire nation."
Ogungbayi shared a personal story about mentoring a struggling secondary school student whose family could not afford basic educational materials. He recalled how the student had lost confidence due to his circumstances but regained hope through the support and resources provided by MIMS. The student eventually graduated and secured employment, and he was present at the event as a volunteer, showcasing the transformative power of mentorship.
In his address to the students, Ogungbayi urged them not to postpone their contributions to national development. "Do not wait till you are 40 to start building Nigeria. Start now," he encouraged, asserting that the youth should view themselves as ambassadors of hope and not merely future leaders.
Addressing the impact of technology on education, Ogungbayi discussed the role of artificial intelligence (AI). He described AI as a beneficial tool that can enhance learning efficiency but warned against over-reliance on it. "We should use AI as a helper, not as a replacement for our own brain," he advised, stressing the need for students to maintain their critical thinking and creativity.
Ogungbayi also commended Ridwan Adeola Yusuf for compiling the book 'Nigeria Is Ours: A Compendium of Public Interest Reporting,' which addresses various issues including education, governance, and civil liberties. He praised the book for choosing substance over sensationalism in an age dominated by noise and misinformation.
The event gathered educationists, students, public officials, and other stakeholders to engage in discussions about leadership, citizenship, and the collective responsibilities of Nigerians in fostering a better future for the country.
