Court remands Sanusi Dankaka over alleged cyber threats against Governor Yusuf
A Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered the remand of Sanusi Dankaka, who allegedly threatened to release private videos of Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf.

A Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered that Sanusi Dankaka be remanded at the Kuje Correctional Centre following allegations of cybercrime related to threats made against Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf. The ruling was issued by Justice Salim Ibrahim after Dankaka was arraigned by the Department of State Services (DSS) on two counts of alleged cyber offences.
The charges against Dankaka, marked FHC/ABJ/CR/699/2026, were filed on October 22 by the DSS through its counsel, Yusuf Afegbua. The prosecution claims that the alleged offences took place in October 2026 within the Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State. It is alleged that Dankaka, alongside other unidentified individuals, attempted to disseminate malicious content via a Facebook account linked to him.
Specifically, the prosecution asserts that Dankaka threatened to release nude videos and photographs of Governor Yusuf, claiming to possess such materials. These actions are said to have been intended to cause annoyance, injury, and insult to the governor. The DSS contends that these actions violate Section 27(1)(b) of the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Act, 2015, as amended, which is punishable under Section 24(1) of the same law.
During the court proceedings, which took place on Monday, both the prosecution and the defence expressed readiness to proceed with the arraignment. After the charges were presented, Dankaka pleaded not guilty to the allegations. Following this, Afegbua requested that the court set a trial date and remand the defendant in custody until the next hearing.
Justice Ibrahim granted the remand request and scheduled the next court date for December 7, 2026, at which time the trial will commence. Consequently, Dankaka will remain in detention at the Kuje Correctional Centre until the upcoming hearing.
