A woman has been arrested in Miami after allegedly setting a man on fire following a heated argument. Tanisha Shelton, 45, is accused of severely injuring Nathaniel Devon Mathis, 33, who now suffers from critical burns covering nearly 80% of his body.

The incident unfolded after a dispute between the two, which escalated into a violent confrontation. According to a police report obtained by CBS, Shelton threatened Mathis before leaving the scene, ominously stating that she would return with someone to attack him.

Hours later, Shelton allegedly returned to the location, armed with a bucket containing a plastic bag filled with an accelerant. Witnesses reported that she asked one of them to borrow a lighter before dousing Mathis in the flammable liquid and igniting it. The attack occurred at the intersection of Northwest 63rd Street and Northwest 25th Avenue.

Emergency services responded promptly to the scene around 6 p.m., where they found Mathis unconscious and suffering from severe burns. He was transported to Jackson Memorial Hospital, where medical staff assessed his condition and reported that he had sustained second- and third-degree burns. Unfortunately, he is not expected to survive his injuries.

Witnesses played a crucial role in the apprehension of Shelton. As she attempted to flee the scene, one witness used pepper spray to subdue her. Additionally, identification provided by other witnesses helped law enforcement track her down and take her into custody.

Shelton is now being held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center and faces serious charges, including attempted murder and arson. The case has drawn significant attention, highlighting issues of domestic violence and the severe consequences of heated disputes.
