A tragic incident in Ikirun, Osun State, has ignited violence and unrest in the community following the discovery of a man's body, identified as Toheeb, in an abandoned well. The police have since arrested ten suspects in connection with the alleged murder and subsequent arson targeting the homes of those believed to be involved.

According to local sources, Toheeb was accused of theft and was apprehended by residents who reportedly beat him before he managed to escape. A local security volunteer, known as Gani, pursued Toheeb, ultimately leading to his alleged murder. Eyewitness accounts suggest that after the initial assault, Toheeb's relatives began searching for him when he failed to return home. This led them to confront those they believed were involved in the beating.

The situation escalated when it was revealed that Gani and others had concealed Toheeb's body in a well, covering it with sand to hide the crime. Outraged community members soon retaliated by setting fire to Gani's house and the homes of his relatives. This act of vigilantism prompted a swift response from the police.

Osun State Police Command's Public Relations Officer, Abiodun Ojelabi, confirmed the arrests, stating that Ganiyu Adeoye and five others were taken into custody for their roles in the murder. Ojelabi noted that Toheeb had been missing for several days before his body was discovered, and it took police and local volunteers over five hours to retrieve it from the well.

The police are actively searching for one additional suspect who remains at large. In light of the unrest, law enforcement has increased their presence in the area to restore order and prevent further violence. Ojelabi emphasized that the situation is being closely monitored and that the case has been escalated to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation.
