The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has issued a statement urging calm and vigilance among airport users after an Ebola Virus Disease case was confirmed in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). FAAN is collaborating with the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC), Port Health Services, and the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) to enhance containment efforts.

Henry Agbebire, FAAN's Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, emphasized the importance of cooperation among passengers, airlines, and other stakeholders during this critical time. He reassured the public that heightened vigilance measures have been implemented across airport operations to ensure safety.

In a statement, Agbebire noted, "The early identification of the case and commencement of contact tracing underscore the importance of established public health protocols, effective surveillance and inter-agency collaboration in responding to potential health threats." He highlighted that FAAN is committed to working closely with health authorities and adapting its response based on further guidance.

FAAN has called on the public to remain calm and vigilant, encouraging cooperation with health officials at the airports. The authority also urged individuals to rely on verified information and avoid spreading unconfirmed reports related to the Ebola situation.

As part of its ongoing efforts, FAAN reassured the traveling public of its readiness to collaborate with relevant agencies to safeguard public health and ensure the safe operation of Nigeria’s airports. The agency is focused on maintaining a secure environment for all passengers and airport personnel during this period of heightened health awareness.
