Businessman abducted as gunmen kill NSCDC officer in Plateau's Pushit community
A Deputy Superintendent of the NSCDC was shot dead while trying to intervene in an abduction.

A tragic incident occurred in Pushit community, located in the Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State, where gunmen killed a Deputy Superintendent of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) and abducted a local businessman. The attack took place around 9:30 p.m. on Monday, October 19, 2026, despite a dusk-to-dawn curfew recently imposed in the region to combat rising violence.
According to community member Lawrence Tabitha, the NSCDC officer was shot while riding his motorcycle near his home. The gunmen had previously kidnapped a businessman who is known for trading in fuel, cement, and fertilizer. Tabitha recounted that the officer was targeted after the headlight of his motorcycle illuminated the fleeing assailants as they attempted to escape with their victim.
This incident has intensified fears regarding the security situation in Pushit and its neighboring areas, which have faced a series of attacks in recent weeks. Tabitha expressed the urgent need for enhanced security measures, urging both the Plateau State Government and security agencies to act swiftly to ensure the safe return of the abducted businessman.
Residents are increasingly alarmed by the frequency of these violent incidents, which have also affected nearby communities such as Vodni, Sabon Gari, and Nchiya. In light of the ongoing threats, Tabitha called on local citizens to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the authorities.
As of now, attempts to obtain confirmation from security operatives regarding the incident have been unsuccessful. The community's plea for increased security measures reflects a growing concern over public safety in the region, highlighting the need for effective responses to combat the rising tide of violence.
