Duane "Keffe D" Davis, a former gang leader, has been sentenced to 40 years in prison for his involvement in the 1996 murder of iconic rapper Tupac Shakur. The verdict was delivered following a jury's decision in September, which found Davis guilty of murder with a deadly weapon, as reported by BBC.

The shooting that claimed Shakur's life occurred on September 7, 1996, in Las Vegas. Although Davis did not pull the trigger, prosecutors accused him of orchestrating the attack and supplying the firearm used in the incident. The actual shooter was identified as Davis' nephew, Orlando Anderson, who denied involvement before his death in a separate shooting in 1998.

Davis, now 63 years old, has expressed intentions to appeal the verdict. His own admissions played a pivotal role in the case against him. In a 2008 police interview, he revealed details about his connection to Shakur's murder while discussing the killing of fellow rapper Christopher Wallace, known as The Notorious B.I.G. This interview was conducted under an agreement that was supposed to protect him from prosecution. However, his later memoir, titled Compton Street Legend, and various media appearances where he discussed Shakur's murder, compromised that protection, allowing prosecutors to use his earlier statements as evidence.

During the trial, Davis' defense team contended that his claims were exaggerated or fabricated for publicity and book sales. Despite these arguments, the jury found sufficient evidence to convict him, marking a significant development in a case that has remained one of the most notorious unsolved murders in the United States for nearly three decades.

Tupac Shakur was just 25 years old when he was killed and is still celebrated as one of hip-hop's most influential figures, with over 75 million records sold worldwide. His murder has spurred countless theories and discussions over the years, and Davis' conviction represents a rare moment of accountability in a long-standing mystery surrounding Shakur's death.
