Police arrest motorcycle thief posing as inspector in Adamawa State
A man impersonating a police inspector has been apprehended in Adamawa State for motorcycle theft.

In a significant development in Adamawa State, law enforcement officials have arrested a man suspected of motorcycle theft who was allegedly impersonating a police inspector. The suspect, identified as Habila Ibrahim, 36, was taken into custody following a failed attempt to steal a motorcycle in the Girei Local Government Area.
The incident occurred on October 10, 2026, when operatives from the Girei Divisional Police Headquarters were conducting a routine crime-prevention patrol along the Girei–Yola Road. They responded to a distress call and intercepted Ibrahim while he was attempting to steal a Boxer motorcycle belonging to Alhaji Musa of Wuro Dole, Girei.
According to a statement from the Adamawa State Police Command, signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Suleiman Nguroje, the suspect was found in possession of a complete police uniform and a master key believed to be used for motorcycle theft. During initial questioning, Ibrahim falsely identified himself as Inspector Yakubu Yusuf, claiming to be affiliated with the Border Patrol Unit at the Sahuda–Cameroon border. This was an apparent attempt to evade arrest.
The police further revealed that Ibrahim was carrying a fake police warrant card, which added to the evidence against him. Subsequent investigations confirmed his true identity as Habila Ibrahim, a resident of Blue House, Kasuwan Gada, Vimtim, in the Mubi North Local Government Area.
Authorities suspect that Ibrahim has been involved in a series of motorcycle thefts and has been impersonating security personnel to facilitate these crimes and defraud unsuspecting members of the public in the Girei, Mubi North, and Mubi South Local Government Areas.
The police have stated that Ibrahim will remain in custody as investigations continue, and he is expected to face charges in court once the inquiry is concluded. This arrest highlights ongoing efforts by the police to combat crime and maintain public safety in the region.
