The Andamin community in Karim-Lamido Local Government Area of Taraba State is in mourning following the death of Shuayibu Danladi Ciroma, a prominent leader of local hunters, who was killed in a confrontation with suspected bandits. The incident occurred on the evening of October 9, 2026, as Ciroma and a team of military personnel were responding to intelligence regarding a planned attack on their community.

According to a statement issued by Tanko Bobbo Andamin, a community leader, the joint team mobilized to prevent the impending assault but encountered armed men during their operation. A fierce exchange of gunfire ensued, during which Ciroma sustained a gunshot wound to his leg. Reports indicate that he lost a significant amount of blood before succumbing to his injuries.

After the encounter, the team returned to their base, unaware that Ciroma was missing. It was only the following morning that a search team returned to the scene and discovered his body. Andamin described Ciroma as a courageous individual who died while defending his community, emphasizing his commitment to protecting the lives and property of his fellow residents.

The community leader extended condolences to Ciroma's family, the Andamin community, and his fellow hunters, highlighting the profound loss felt by all. The statement also called on the Taraba State Government and security agencies to take immediate action to address the escalating insecurity in the region.

Insecurity has increasingly disrupted the livelihoods of residents in Andamin, with many unable to travel safely to their farms or attend markets without fear of attacks. The statement expressed concern that the persistent violence has exacerbated poverty, hunger, and starvation among the community members, whose economic activities have been severely affected.

Furthermore, it was noted that the armed groups, which initially infiltrated Taraba from neighboring states, have now spread their activities closer to local communities, raising alarms about the safety of residents. The community is urging for urgent and coordinated security measures to restore peace and rebuild the confidence of the people.

The Taraba State Police Command's Public Relations Officer, Victor Mshelizah, was contacted for confirmation of the incident but cited poor network connectivity as a barrier to reaching the Divisional Police Officer for further details. He assured that he would provide updates as soon as he could establish contact.
