In a significant military operation, the Air Component of the Joint Task Force (North East) Operation HADIN KAI has successfully neutralised over 40 Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists, including a prominent commander, during a precision airstrike in Borno State. The operation took place on October 10, 2026, targeting a terrorist enclave located in Badu Village, south of Gudumbali in the Guzamala Local Government Area.

The military action was prompted by credible intelligence reports indicating that ISWAP fighters were amassing to launch coordinated attacks against military troops in the region. Captain Mohammed Goni, the Military Information Officer for the Joint Task Force, confirmed the details of the operation in a statement released on October 12.

According to Captain Goni, the airstrike was preceded by targeted aerial surveillance which identified terrorist movements around suspected hideouts and logistics facilities. The subsequent strike was executed on a building occupied by the terrorists, leading to the substantial loss of life among ISWAP ranks.

The preliminary human intelligence and battle damage assessment revealed that the operation not only eliminated over 40 terrorists but also destroyed two vehicles and approximately 20 motorcycles used by the group for mobility and logistics. This action has significantly degraded ISWAP's operational capabilities and disrupted their planned assaults on military positions and surrounding communities.

Further intelligence indicated that the terrorists targeted in the operation were part of ISWAP's Murabitun element, a specialised mobile fighting unit known for conducting patrols and coordinating attacks in the Lake Chad region. The destruction of their enclave and associated operational assets marks a notable setback for the group, hindering their capacity to launch future attacks and sustain their activities in the area.

The Joint Task Force has emphasized the importance of intelligence-led and technology-enabled operations in dismantling terrorist networks. The successful airstrike underscores the ongoing commitment of the military to maintain operational momentum in degrading terrorist capabilities and enhancing security throughout the North East region.

As assessments continue to determine the full impact of the operation, the Joint Task Force North East remains dedicated to relentless air and ground operations aimed at eliminating terrorist threats, safeguarding vulnerable communities, and working towards lasting peace and stability in the region.
