A tragic incident unfolded in Kebbi State as gunmen attacked a construction site along the Sokoto-Badagry Superhighway, resulting in the deaths of three individuals, including an expatriate. The attack occurred in Gubba Village, located in the Andarai District of Maiyama Local Government Area.
According to Superintendent Bashir Usman, the Kebbi State Police Public Relations Officer, the assailants, believed to be Lakurawa terrorists from the Kebbe region of neighboring Sokoto State, stormed the site and opened fire on the workers. The victims included two security operatives and the expatriate, while two civilians sustained injuries from gunfire and were subsequently taken to a hospital for medical attention.
The police reported that another attack was attempted the same day along the Birnin Malam axis, but this assault was successfully repelled by police forces. In response to the attacks, joint security teams have been deployed to the area to enhance security measures and prevent further incidents.
Following the tragic events, construction activities at the site have been halted as security agencies ramp up surveillance and increase personnel in the region. The police have reassured the workers involved in the project that their safety is a priority, urging them to remain calm as efforts are made to safeguard lives and property in the area.
