In a remarkable achievement, Dr. Mary Oluwaseun Adebayo, a dedicated teacher from Ogun State, has been awarded the title of Nigeria's Overall Best Teacher for 2026. The accolade was presented during the Federal Government's President's Teachers' and Schools' Excellence Awards, held in Abuja as part of the celebrations for World Teachers' Day.

Dr. Adebayo, who teaches at Nawair-Ud-Deen Grammar School in Obantoko, Abeokuta, first secured the Best Public Senior Secondary School Teacher category before being elevated to the overall national title. Her exceptional commitment to education and her students has made her the standout winner of the awards, which recognize outstanding contributions from teachers, school administrators, and educational institutions across the country.

Receiving the award, which included a brand-new car as the grand prize, Adebayo expressed her surprise and gratitude. "I started this work in a private school. I kept doing the work, I did not know the Lord will reward me this way," she stated, highlighting her focus on teaching rather than seeking recognition.

The achievement has been celebrated widely within her school community and beyond. The Nawair-Ud-Deen Grammar School, Obantoko Old Students Association (NUDGOSA), released a statement expressing pride in Adebayo's accomplishment. Sanni Damilola, the association's National Public Relations Officer, stated that Adebayo's success is a source of pride for the school and its alumni, emphasizing that her recognition serves as an inspiration for current students and educators alike.

Hon. Fasiu Bakenne, the National President of NUDGOSA, also extended congratulations to Adebayo, the school's management, and the Ogun State Teaching Service Commission. He noted that her win exemplifies the potential for excellence within local communities across Nigeria.

Additionally, local lawmaker Nasir Gboyega Isiaka congratulated Adebayo, describing her as an illustrious daughter of Afon, Imeko-Afon. He praised her achievement as a testament to the depth of talent and dedication found in local educators.

Dr. Adebayo's recognition follows the success of another Ogun State teacher, Solanke Francis Taiwo, who was named the Overall Best Teacher in Nigeria for 2025. These accolades highlight the significant contributions of teachers in shaping the future of education in Nigeria, showcasing their hard work and commitment to their students and communities.
