Yobe Hisbah Commission detains six women in anti-prostitution crackdown
Six women were arrested in Gadaka, Yobe State, during a Hisbah operation targeting sex work.

The Yobe State Hisbah Commission has apprehended six women suspected of engaging in sex work in Gadaka, located in the Fika Local Government Area. This operation was conducted over the weekend in the Abuja area of Gadaka town, as reported by Daily Trust.
Malam Musa Abari Talba, the Head of Administration for the Hisbah Commission in Fika, confirmed the arrests and stated that the operation also aimed to address locations believed to be involved in the sale and processing of alcoholic beverages. Talba emphasized the importance of these actions in promoting the moral values of the community, which he described as being contrary to religious and societal norms.
During the operation, Hisbah officials not only enforced the law but also engaged in awareness campaigns, urging residents to adhere to societal standards and avoid behaviors deemed harmful. Talba indicated that the commission is committed to fostering peace, discipline, and good moral conduct among the people of Yobe State.
He further noted that such operations would be ongoing as part of the Hisbah Commission's broader strategy to ensure compliance with legal standards and to cultivate orderly communities throughout the state. The focus on both sex work and alcohol sales reflects the commission's dual approach to tackling issues they believe undermine community values.
The Hisbah Commission's actions have drawn attention to the ongoing debates surrounding morality, legality, and individual freedoms in Nigeria, particularly in regions where religious and cultural norms play a significant role in governance and law enforcement.
