A teenager is recovering in the hospital following a hit-and-run accident in Lagos.

A teenage boy has been hospitalized following a hit-and-run accident that occurred on Wednesday along the Onipanu Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) corridor in Lagos State. The incident took place around 4:30 PM as the boy was attempting to cross the busy expressway toward Fadeyi.
Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, the Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), reported that the boy sustained significant injuries, including head and leg trauma. Emergency responders from the agency's Cobra Team arrived at the scene just two minutes after the accident was reported, providing immediate medical assistance to the injured teenager.
The Cobra Team swiftly transported the victim to the Trauma Centre for further treatment, emphasizing the urgency of the situation. Dr. Oke-Osanyintolu highlighted the agency's commitment to a people-centric governance philosophy, ensuring that timely help was rendered to those in need. He urged motorists to adhere to traffic regulations, emphasizing the importance of safe driving practices to prevent such unfortunate incidents.
In a related note, earlier on the same day, the Cobra Team responded to another accident involving a truck and a Toyota Camry near the National Orthopaedic Hospital, Onipanu. This crash occurred at approximately 5:10 AM and was attributed to reckless driving and speeding by the truck driver. Fortunately, no lives were lost in this incident, and the road was cleared for traffic shortly after recovery operations were completed.
Dr. Oke-Osanyintolu commended the rapid response of the Cobra Team, alongside the police and officials from the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), for their collaboration in managing both accidents. He reiterated the government's dedication to enhancing emergency response operations across the state to protect lives and property.
This incident comes in the wake of a tragic report involving a female police inspector, Mercy Bassey, who lost her life after being struck by a hit-and-run driver while performing route-lining duties for President Bola Tinubu's visit to Lagos. The police inspector was reportedly hit by a black Highlander SUV while crossing the Third Mainland Bridge, highlighting ongoing concerns about road safety in the city.
As investigations continue into these incidents, authorities are urging both drivers and pedestrians to exercise caution and prioritize safety on the roads.
