Nigerian football administrator Lola Ogunbote takes on a key role at Chelsea Women.

Nigerian-born football administrator Lola Ogunbote has officially joined Chelsea Women as the club's new Head of Football Operations and Player Services. This appointment marks a significant milestone in Ogunbote's career and highlights her growing influence in football management.
Ogunbote’s journey to Chelsea follows nearly five successful years at Burnley Women, where she was pivotal in establishing the club’s women’s football framework. During her tenure, she played a crucial role in various operational aspects, including recruitment and player development. Her efforts culminated in Burnley Women winning the FA Women’s National League Northern Premier Division title and securing promotion last season.
She began her role at Chelsea earlier this summer, taking charge of several operational responsibilities for the women's team. This included overseeing the team’s pre-season tour of Australia and New Zealand and managing the logistical challenges associated with playing home fixtures at Stamford Bridge and Champions League matches at AFC Wimbledon. Chelsea Women are aiming to reclaim their position at the top of the Women’s Super League (WSL) after finishing third last season, trailing behind Manchester City and Arsenal.
Born in Nigeria, Ogunbote moved to East London as a baby, where she was raised. Her commitment to football extends beyond club management; she is also dedicated to empowering young girls through the sport. As an executive director of Goals for Girls, a US-based organization, she focuses on using football as a vehicle for leadership and opportunity. In February 2026, she facilitated a leadership and football programme in Surulere, Lagos, which engaged 300 female students from ten schools, combining football training with leadership development.
Ogunbote’s contributions to football have not gone unnoticed. She was recognized in the 2024 Football Black List in the administration category, joining the ranks of notable figures like Paul Elliott and Fleur Robinson. Her new role at Chelsea adds to the growing Nigerian presence in the Women’s Super League, which also features Super Falcons goalkeeper Comfort Erhabor at Crystal Palace and Rofiat Imuran at Aston Villa.
As Ogunbote steps into this prominent position, her experience and vision are expected to play a vital role in shaping the future of Chelsea Women’s football operations, further enhancing the club's ambitions in the competitive landscape of women's football.
