Auwalu Adamu, a resident of Yantaji Village in Jigawa State, has been sentenced to death by hanging by the Kano State High Court No. 2 for culpable homicide. In addition to the death penalty, Adamu received a life sentence for armed robbery. The verdict was delivered by Justice Yusuf Ubale on October 6, 2026, following a trial that highlighted the severity of the crimes committed.

The case against Adamu stemmed from a violent incident that occurred on July 31, 2021, in Gamoji Village, Gaya Local Government Area of Kano State. During the attack, Adamu was accused of stabbing Saleh Audu Barau multiple times in the face with a knife around 8 pm, leading to severe injuries. The prosecution presented a total of five witnesses to establish the case against him.

In his defense, Adamu took the stand but chose not to call any additional witnesses to support his claims. After carefully considering the evidence and testimonies from both the prosecution and the defense, the court found him guilty of the charges brought against him.

Following the judgment, Kano State's Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Abdulkarim Kabiru Maude, commended the Chief State Counsel, Barrister Hannatu Abdulmalik, for her dedication and professionalism throughout the prosecution. Maude emphasized that the ruling reflects the government's commitment to ensuring justice, particularly in matters that involve the safety and security of citizens.

He further expressed the ministry's intention to work closely with the judiciary and law enforcement agencies to ensure that criminal cases are prosecuted effectively, reinforcing the rule of law in Kano State. This case serves as a reminder of the serious consequences of violent crime and the legal repercussions that follow such actions in Nigeria.
