Defending champions Rangers have successfully retained their lead in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) after a decisive 3-1 win against Abia Warriors at the Awka City Stadium. The match showcased the prowess of Rangers' experienced striker Godwin Obaje, who contributed to the scoreline alongside Chidiebere Nwobodo and Akorode Daniel, each finding the back of the net.

Abia Warriors managed to score a consolation goal in the 53rd minute through a penalty taken by Emeka Obioma, but it was not enough to turn the tide against a dominant Rangers side. This victory keeps Rangers firmly at the top of the league standings as they aim to defend their title.

In another match, Rivers United continued their impressive run this season, maintaining their unbeaten streak with a 2-0 victory over Ikorodu City at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium in Port Harcourt. Samson Olasupo opened the scoring early in the 19th minute, and Chinemerem Ugwueze doubled the lead just before halftime, ensuring a comfortable win for the home side.

Meanwhile, Barau FC faced their first defeat of the season, losing 4-1 to Bendel Insurance at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin City. Kayode Oke was the standout performer for Bendel Insurance, netting two goals, while Suraju Lawal and Jonathan James also contributed to the scoreline. Barau FC's only goal came from Aliyu Sugau.

The NPFL fixtures also saw Doma United edge past Wolves with a narrow 1-0 victory, while the match between Shooting Stars and Nasarawa United ended in a goalless draw. Inter Lagos and Katsina United played to a 1-1 stalemate, and Enyimba secured a 2-0 win against Plateau United.

As the season progresses, the competition remains fierce, with Rangers and Rivers United setting the pace as teams strive for glory in the NPFL.
