Tragic accident on Ijebu-Ode/Ore Expressway claims nine lives
Nine people died in a collision between a Delta Line bus and a Sino Truck amid rain.

A devastating road accident on the Ijebu-Ode/Ore Expressway on Monday resulted in the deaths of nine individuals, as confirmed by the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Ogun Command. The incident, which occurred around 4:55 PM, involved a Delta Line commercial bus and a Sino Truck, both of which collided under treacherous weather conditions.
According to Afolabi Odunsi, the spokesperson for the FRSC Ogun Command, all nine occupants of the vehicles—three males and six females—lost their lives in the tragic crash. Preliminary investigations suggest that speed violations on a wet road during rainfall were likely contributing factors to the accident.
The vehicles involved in the collision included a white Toyota Hiace bus registered as 14B-299DT, owned by Delta Line, and a white Sino Truck bearing the registration number AAB162XD. The impact of the crash was severe, leading to the immediate fatalities of all individuals on board.
Odunsi provided further details, stating, "The crash occurred while it was raining, with the road pavement wet. Preliminary investigation identified speed violation as the probable cause of the crash." The bodies of the deceased were subsequently transported to the General Hospital Morgue in Ijebu-Ode for further examination.
In the aftermath of the accident, both vehicles were removed from the scene and taken to the Ilese Police Station by officers from the local police force. This tragic event underscores the ongoing concerns regarding road safety, particularly during adverse weather conditions.
This incident adds to the alarming statistics of road accidents in Nigeria, where many lives are lost due to reckless driving and poor road conditions. The FRSC continues to advocate for safer driving practices to prevent such tragedies in the future.
