Tragic accident claims nine lives in Ogun State road crash
A devastating road accident in Ogun State resulted in the deaths of nine passengers, highlighting safety concerns.

A tragic incident unfolded in Ogun State on Monday, October 5, as nine passengers lost their lives in a severe road accident along the JBD/Ore route in Ijebu-Ode. The collision, which took place around 4:55 p.m. in the Bethel area, involved a white Toyota Hiace bus belonging to Delta Line and a white Sino truck from Bill Gas Solution Ltd.
According to reports, the accident resulted in the immediate death of all nine individuals involved, comprising three males and six females. Afolabi Odunsi, the Public Education Officer of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) for Ogun Sector Command, confirmed the incident, attributing the cause to speed violations, particularly under adverse weather conditions.
At the time of the crash, it was raining, leading to wet road conditions that likely contributed to the accident. Odunsi stated, "The crash occurred while the weather was raining, with the road pavement wet. Preliminary investigation identified speed violation as the probable cause of the crash."
Emergency responders arrived at the scene just two minutes after receiving the distress call, at 4:58 p.m. They promptly evacuated the bodies of the deceased, which were subsequently taken to the General Hospital morgue in Ijebu-Ode. The vehicles involved in the crash were towed to Ilese Police Station for further investigation.
In the wake of this tragedy, Corps Commander Oludare Ogunjobi expressed his condolences to the families of the victims. He emphasized the importance of road safety, urging all motorists to prioritize safe driving practices, especially during rainy conditions. Ogunjobi highlighted that speeding poses a significant risk, particularly on wet roads where reduced tire grip and visibility can lead to loss of vehicle control.
The incident serves as a stark reminder of the critical need for caution among drivers, particularly commercial vehicle operators. Authorities continue to advocate for adherence to speed limits and safe driving behaviors to prevent further tragedies on the roads.
