A 30-year-old man was arrested in Ilorin with two AK-47 rifles and 42 bullets.

The Kwara State Police Command has made a significant arrest in Ilorin, detaining a 30-year-old man suspected of gun-running. The suspect, identified as Umaru M., was apprehended during a routine stop-and-search operation along the Alapa–Okolowo route, where police discovered two AK-47 rifles, three magazines, and 42 rounds of live ammunition hidden in a bag within a commercial vehicle.
According to Police Public Relations Officer, Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, the firearms were uncovered after officers conducted a thorough search of the vehicle. Initially, Umaru denied ownership of the bag containing the weapons, but further questioning led him to allegedly confess that he was indeed transporting the firearms and ammunition.
The police revealed that during the investigation, Umaru provided details linking the recovered weapons to another individual, identified as Dan Yarubawa, who is also suspected to be part of a larger gun-running network. It was reported that Yarubawa allegedly supplied the firearms to Umaru for delivery to another person named Dahiru, who resides outside Kwara State.
The Kwara State Police Command has stated that they are intensifying efforts to apprehend other individuals connected to this investigation. The police are focusing on uncovering the full extent of the suspected gun-running network to prevent further criminal activities in the region.
Commissioner of Police, Ojo Adekimi, expressed the command's commitment to ensuring the safety of lives and property in Kwara. He emphasized the importance of community involvement, urging residents to share timely and credible information that could aid police operations. Adekimi reassured the public that the police would maintain their vigilance and proactive measures to counter threats to public safety in the state.
