Tosin Eniolorunda, the co-founder and Group Chief Executive Officer of Moniepoint Inc., has made history by being named the only African honoree in the business, technology, and artificial intelligence categories of the TIME100 Next 2026 list. This prestigious recognition highlights Eniolorunda's significant contributions to enhancing financial access in Nigeria, a feat that has garnered international attention.

Moniepoint, founded in 2015, has rapidly evolved into a leading fintech company, achieving unicorn status in 2024. The platform serves over 20 million customers and is responsible for approximately 80% of in-person digital payment transactions across Nigeria. Its extensive agency banking network spans all 774 local government areas, making financial services more accessible to businesses and individuals alike.

Tony Elumelu, the chairman of Heirs Holdings and founder of the Tony Elumelu Foundation, lauded Eniolorunda's journey in his tribute for TIME. Elumelu, who himself was recognized in the TIME100 list in 2020, described Eniolorunda as a visionary entrepreneur who overcame significant challenges to achieve success. He emphasized that Eniolorunda’s achievements serve as an inspiration for young Africans, showcasing that with determination and the right mindset, success is attainable.

In a statement following the announcement, Eniolorunda expressed gratitude to his team and the millions of users who trust Moniepoint with their financial needs. He stated that this recognition reinforces their commitment to providing financial happiness and developing services with enhanced diligence and care. Eniolorunda also acknowledged Elumelu's role in promoting African entrepreneurship, expressing confidence in the continent's potential for transformation through innovation and opportunity.

This accolade for Eniolorunda comes on the heels of another significant recognition for Moniepoint; Felix Ike, the co-founder and Chief Technology Officer, was recently included in TIME’s inaugural Executives of the Year list for Tech and Data. Ike stands out as the only executive from an African company among the 50 leaders selected, further solidifying Moniepoint's status on the global stage.

The TIME100 Next list, launched in 2019, aims to celebrate emerging leaders across various sectors who are shaping the future. The honorees will be celebrated at a gala event in New York on October 29, marking a significant moment for African representation in global leadership discussions. Eniolorunda’s inclusion not only highlights his personal achievements but also shines a light on the growing influence of African innovators in the global business landscape.
