The Edo State Police Command has successfully arrested seven individuals suspected of cult activities in Otuo, while also recovering a six-month-old baby who was reportedly stolen and taken to Imo State. The police made this announcement during a press briefing held by the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Eno Ikoedem, on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, CP Patrick Daaor.

The arrests were part of a broader effort by the police to combat criminal activities in the region through sustained intelligence-led operations. Ikoedem highlighted that these operations are aimed at ensuring the safety of lives and property throughout Edo State. She noted that the recent operations have led to a calmer atmosphere in the affected communities, with no reported incidents of kidnapping during a one-week joint clearance operation targeting criminal hideouts in Edo North.

In addition to the recovery of the abducted infant, the police have also apprehended suspects linked to the alleged sexual abuse and online exposure of a young girl in Ekiadolor. Ikoedem confirmed that the baby has been safely reunited with their family, bringing some relief to the community.

The police spokesperson emphasized that the suspects arrested in connection with the cult activities are currently in custody as investigations continue. She assured the public that those found guilty will face prosecution in line with the law. Moreover, the police have also arrested a 37-year-old man for the alleged rape of a 70-year-old woman in Igueben, with the investigation into this case ongoing.

CP Patrick Daaor has urged residents to remain vigilant and continue providing timely and credible information to security agencies to aid in the fight against crime. He also advised young people and parents to steer clear of cultism and other criminal affiliations. Furthermore, he warned against the misuse of social media for harassment or the humiliation of others, reiterating that sexual violence in any form is a serious crime.

The Edo State Police Command remains committed to maintaining its intelligence-driven approach to policing and taking decisive actions against criminal elements to ensure the safety and security of all citizens in the state.
