A serious accident on the Coastal Road in Lagos has resulted in the death of one individual and left three others injured. The incident, which occurred on Friday, involved a Lexus Jeep 350 with the registration number LSD 554 KV, according to a statement from the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA).

Preliminary reports indicate that the driver lost control of the vehicle, causing it to crash violently into a roadside pole before overturning. The impact of the collision was severe, leading to the tragic death of one passenger and serious injuries to three others.

LASTMA officials, who were monitoring traffic in the area, responded promptly to the scene of the accident. They secured the affected section of the road to facilitate emergency response efforts. With the help of bystanders, the injured victims were extracted from the wreckage and transported to Duck-Yard Hospital located within the Military Zone for immediate medical attention.

In the aftermath of the crash, relevant emergency and security agencies were engaged to manage the situation. Security personnel from Victoria Island provided additional support at the scene. LASTMA officers worked to remove the damaged Lexus from the roadway to prevent any further accidents and to restore normal traffic flow.

Olalekan Bakare-Oki, the General Manager of LASTMA, expressed condolences to the family of the deceased and emphasized the importance of safe driving practices. He urged motorists to exercise caution, maintain appropriate speeds, and adhere to traffic regulations to avoid similar incidents in the future. Bakare-Oki highlighted the dangers of excessive speed and reckless driving, stating that such behaviors can have devastating consequences for all road users.

He also encouraged the public to report road accidents, vehicle breakdowns, and other emergencies to LASTMA using their toll-free short code for swift intervention. The tragic incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of road safety and the need for vigilance while driving in busy urban areas like Lagos.
