Ondo agency alerts public on fraudulent NGOs impersonating FCCPC officials
The Ondo State Competition and Consumer Protection Agency warns against illegal levies by impersonators.

The Ondo State Competition and Consumer Protection Agency (ODCCPA) has issued a stern warning to non-governmental organisations (NGOs) that are reportedly impersonating officials of the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) in a bid to extort money from traders and seal business premises across the state. This warning comes in response to alarming reports of these NGOs demanding payments under false pretenses, such as 'FCCPC registration' and 'consumer protection levy'.
In a statement released on his X handle, the Executive Chairman of the ODCCPA, Oluyemi Fasipe, emphasized that these actions are unauthorized and illegal. He stated that anyone found impersonating FCCPC or ODCCPA officials, or unlawfully collecting money in the name of either agency, would face investigation and prosecution by law enforcement authorities.
Fasipe clarified that only duly authorized FCCPC officials, equipped with valid identification, are permitted to conduct official activities on behalf of the Commission. He reiterated that no NGO has the authority to act as the FCCPC, thereby urging the public to remain vigilant against such fraudulent activities.
The chairman further directed the implicated organisations to cease their activities immediately, warning that the state government would not tolerate impersonation, extortion, or any actions that mislead the public and disrupt legitimate business operations. He called upon supermarket owners, market leaders, traders, and the general public to report any individuals claiming to be FCCPC officials or demanding payments on behalf of the commission.
To facilitate reporting, Fasipe provided a direct contact number, 0706 287 7740, for complaints to his office. He also assured the public that any legitimate joint operations involving the ODCCPA and FCCPC in Ondo State would be properly coordinated and communicated through official channels.
In conclusion, Fasipe reaffirmed the agency's commitment to protecting the rights of traders, businesses, and consumers, promoting a fair, safe, and transparent marketplace. He urged residents to be cautious and avoid making payments to individuals or organizations whose authority cannot be verified, thus safeguarding themselves against potential fraud.
