Ogun CP urges Nigerians to make impactful decisions on Independence Day
At a symposium marking Nigeria's 66th Independence Anniversary, Ogun CP Bode Ojajuni emphasized the importance of today's decisions for future generations.

As Nigeria celebrates its 66th Independence Anniversary, the Commissioner of Police for Ogun State, CP Bode Ojajuni, has called on citizens to reflect on their choices and actions, emphasizing that these will shape the future for generations yet to come. Speaking at a symposium organized by The International Friendship League (IFL) in Abeokuta, Ojajuni highlighted the theme, "Nigeria at 66: A Call to Citizenship Transformation," urging attendees to engage in meaningful dialogue about leadership and national values.
The event took place at the Presidential Conference Hall of the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library and was designed not just as a celebration, but as a platform for critical reflection on Nigeria's trajectory. Ojajuni stated, "The future should always be taken into cognizance. Today's decisions, conduct and values have consequences for generations yet unborn," underscoring the weight of responsibility that lies with current citizens.
Drawing from his extensive experience in policing and leadership, Ojajuni shared personal insights into the importance of education and knowledge transfer. He recounted a conversation with academics regarding his pursuit of a PhD, stating that his goal was to ensure that the lessons and values of the past are preserved for future generations. This commitment to education and integrity was a central theme of his address.
The Commissioner identified key values essential for national development, including integrity, discipline, knowledge, service, and respect for shared values. He stressed that transformation must start at the individual level and be reflected in leadership, institutions, and society as a whole.
In his remarks, Ojajuni commended the IFL for fostering a space for dialogue on citizenship and leadership, encouraging Nigerians to seize the opportunity presented by the 66th Independence Anniversary to renew their commitment to nation-building. He extended his best wishes to all Nigerians, both at home and in the diaspora, for a peaceful and prosperous celebration of independence.
