Sowunmi reassures Nigerians of Tinubu's health amid election speculations
The Convener of The Alternative Movement, Segun Sowunmi, urges Nigerians to dismiss health rumors about President Tinubu, affirming his fitness for governance.

Otunba Segun Sowunmi, the Convener of The Alternative Movement, has called on Nigerians to disregard ongoing rumors regarding President Bola Tinubu’s health. Speaking at a town hall meeting in Ijebu North Local Government Area of Ogun State, Sowunmi emphasized that the President is in excellent health and mentally fit to govern, particularly as speculation mounts about his potential candidacy for the 2027 presidential election.
Sowunmi's comments come in the wake of criticisms surrounding Tinubu's absence from the recent United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), with some detractors suggesting that it indicates a need for medical leave. He firmly rejected these claims as mere political gossip, stating, "The President is in good health. The President is in sound mind."
During the meeting, Sowunmi urged citizens to focus less on negative narratives and more on the positive developments within the country. He criticized a growing trend among some Nigerians to celebrate setbacks rather than progress, asserting that such attitudes contribute to a culture of self-hate. "You cannot indulge in continuous self-hate to the extent that all you’re looking for is bad news," he remarked.
Sowunmi also took the opportunity to address the need for unity among Nigerians, particularly in the face of political disagreements. He urged the populace to support initiatives that foster economic growth and attract investments, rather than indulging in pessimism.
The politician did not shy away from addressing the opposition, pointing out that certain presidential candidates fail to recognize the positive strides made in the country. He claimed that these candidates are more inclined to highlight challenges than to celebrate achievements, which he believes undermines national morale.
Looking ahead to the 2027 elections, Sowunmi expressed confidence in Tinubu's ability to secure a victory in Ogun State. He highlighted the state's substantial voting population, which he noted has nearly three million registered voters. He encouraged residents to participate actively in the electoral process, stating, "There is no reason why the people of Ogun State should not produce numbers that can rival those of Kano, Katsina or Kaduna."
Sowunmi reiterated his support for Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun in the upcoming Ogun East senatorial election, emphasizing the importance of effective representation for the state's interests. He urged voters to take the election seriously, given the district's strategic location near the business community and the Presidency.
As the political landscape heats up, Sowunmi's reassurances about President Tinubu's health and his call for increased voter participation reflect a broader strategy to galvanize support ahead of the next electoral cycle.
