In a startling revelation at the Lagos State High Court, Assistant Commissioner of Police Ngozi Braide has accused her former lawyer, Chinwe Onuoha, of fraudulently converting her residential property in Ikorodu into an industrial factory. Braide testified that Onuoha forged documents to secure a loan from the Bank of Industry without her consent.

During the court proceedings led by prosecutor Emmanuel Jackson, Braide recounted her long-standing friendship with Onuoha, which began in 2011. Their relationship soured after Braide extended a helping hand to Onuoha during a personal crisis. In 2019, after Onuoha faced eviction from her landlord, Braide offered her temporary accommodation in her four-bedroom home, which she had built after returning from a peacekeeping mission in Liberia in 2008.

Braide stated that what was initially meant to be a three-month stay extended for over a year. However, in 2021, due to rising insecurity in her home state, Braide requested her property back for her brother's family. Although Onuoha eventually vacated the premises, communication between the two deteriorated.

In January 2022, Braide made a shocking discovery when she visited her property. To her disbelief, she found that it had been transformed into a factory named 'Shearwater Factory.' The interior had been extensively modified, with walls removed and industrial machinery installed. Workers were reportedly living on the premises, and a manager named David was overseeing operations.

Braide's testimony revealed that Onuoha allegedly submitted a forged lease agreement dated February 12, 2018, to the Bank of Industry to secure the loan using Braide's property. The court has adjourned the case until November 10, 2026, for cross-examination of the witness by the defense counsel. Onuoha, along with other accomplices who are currently at large, faces multiple charges including conspiracy, forgery, and the uttering of false documents.

This case has drawn significant attention due to the nature of the allegations and the involvement of a police officer in the proceedings. As the legal battle unfolds, the implications of such actions on trust within personal and professional relationships are being closely monitored.
