The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, has approved a petition from the family of the late musician, Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba, known as Mohbad, for a renewed and thorough investigation into the details surrounding his death. This development was communicated by the family's lawyer, Oladayo Ogungbe, in a statement released on September 29, 2026.

The Aloba family initially submitted their petition on April 14, 2026, which was officially received at the Force Headquarters in Abuja on May 7. The petition highlighted discrepancies in the previous investigation and called for a comprehensive forensic review of the circumstances leading to Mohbad’s demise. Following the approval from the IGP, the case has been forwarded to the Lagos State Police Command for immediate action.

According to Ogungbe, the family has been informed that the petition has been assigned to officers from the Special Enquiry Bureau, who will be responsible for the further investigation. He noted that the family has been actively engaging with the new investigative team and has been following up on the progress of the case.

This announcement comes on the heels of the Federal High Court in Abuja dismissing a separate suit related to the case on September 25, 2026. Ogungbe clarified that this suit, identified as Suit No. FHC/ABJ/CS/363/2026, was not initiated by the Aloba family and should not be conflated with their petition to the police. He emphasized that the dismissal of the suit does not affect the ongoing police investigation initiated through the family's petition.

The Aloba family has expressed their commitment to cooperating fully with the investigators, offering relevant information, documents, and witnesses that may aid the inquiry. They have urged the police to conduct the investigation with professionalism, independence, and thoroughness, ensuring that all pertinent individuals and circumstances are examined.

In their statement, the family made it clear that they are not attempting to influence the investigation or engage in public speculation regarding the case. Instead, they are advocating for a credible and transparent process that can establish the facts surrounding Mohbad’s death. The family concluded by reaffirming their ongoing engagement with the investigation, stating, "The pursuit of justice for Mohbad continues."
