The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kebbi State has firmly rejected allegations made by Senator Garba Musa Maidoki of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), which claimed that the arrests and prosecutions of certain ADC members were politically motivated. During a press conference in Birnin Kebbi, the APC's State Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Isah Abubakar Assalafi, challenged the ADC to provide credible evidence to support its claims.

Assalafi emphasized that allegations of political persecution are serious and should not be made lightly. He called on the opposition party to produce verifiable evidence linking the Kebbi State Government to the alleged unlawful arrests, particularly any directives that might have instructed security agencies to target individuals based on their political affiliations.

"No individual or political party should be placed above legitimate investigation and the due process of law," Assalafi stated, urging the ADC to submit any evidence of police misconduct or abuse of power to the appropriate authorities for proper investigation. He cautioned against attempts to dictate how security agencies should perform their duties, asserting that these institutions must operate within the law to ensure public safety and order.

The APC spokesman reiterated that anyone dissatisfied with an arrest or judicial decision has the constitutional right to seek redress through established legal channels, rather than resorting to political rhetoric. He stressed the importance of the justice system in addressing alleged violations of rights.

In a call for accountability, Assalafi stated, "Anyone found wanting in connection with the Jega violence should face the full weight of the law, whether APC, ADC, PDP or any other political party. We demand justice for the victims, accountability for those responsible, and equal application of the law without discrimination."

He also expressed sympathy for the residents of Jega and surrounding communities affected by recent incidents, urging political leaders to exercise restraint and avoid statements that could escalate tensions. Assalafi highlighted the Kebbi State Government's ongoing efforts under Governor Dr. Nasir Idris to enhance security and protect lives and property through collaboration with security agencies.

According to Assalafi, the government has been proactive in providing operational vehicles and logistical support to security forces to improve their capacity to address security challenges, especially in vulnerable areas. He reaffirmed the administration's commitment to strengthening the state's security framework and ensuring the protection of citizens while preventing criminal activities.

In conclusion, Assalafi called on the ADC and other political actors to respect the rule of law and refrain from politicizing legitimate law enforcement actions. He reiterated that the APC would not support the persecution of any citizen based on political grounds, nor would it tolerate the use of political affiliation as a shield against lawful investigations or prosecutions. "Let the evidence speak, let due process prevail, and let justice be served without fear or favour," he concluded.
