Man collapses in court after learning of potential 100-year sentence for child exploitation
Joshua James Lozano fainted in court upon hearing he faces multiple felony charges.

A dramatic scene unfolded in a Phoenix courtroom on Monday when Joshua James Lozano, a 42-year-old hospital employee, fainted after being informed that he could face up to 100 years in prison for multiple child sexual exploitation charges. The incident occurred during a hearing where Lozano was facing ten felony counts linked to alleged child exploitation, as reported by local media.
Lozano, who works at Banner Del Webb Hospital, was arrested last Thursday following an investigation by Glendale police. The inquiry was initiated after the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children alerted authorities about explicit material being accessed through Lozano's internet service. Investigators traced the activity back to him using his phone number and IP address.
During the court proceedings, Maricopa County prosecutor Ashley Stetson requested a bail amount of $150,000, emphasizing the seriousness of the charges against Lozano. Each of the ten counts he faces carries a potential sentence of ten years, which could lead to a cumulative sentence of a century behind bars if convicted.
Upon hearing the possible consequences of his actions, Lozano collapsed in the courtroom, prompting a brief pause in the proceedings for medical assistance. After regaining consciousness, he was taken back into police custody.
Lozano's attorney, Michael Tamou, argued for a reduction in bail, suggesting it be lowered to $50,000, citing Lozano's local ties. However, the judge upheld the higher bail amount. Should Lozano manage to post bail, he will be subjected to strict conditions, including a prohibition on contacting minors, using a smartphone, or accessing the internet. Additionally, he will be required to wear an electronic monitoring device.
Lozano is scheduled to return to court on September 21 for further proceedings regarding the charges against him. The case has drawn significant attention, highlighting ongoing concerns about child exploitation and the legal repercussions faced by offenders in such serious cases.
