The Kano State Government has officially refuted claims made in a recent media report that it has launched the construction of 480 housing units as part of the Gida-Gida Mega City Project. The government described the report as misleading and emphasized that no construction has commenced.

This clarification was made by Malam Adamu Abdullahi, the Director of Public Enlightenment at the Ministry for Housing Development, following a report titled "Kano Govt Unveils 480-Unit Gida-Gida Mega City." Arc. Ibrahim Yakubu Adamu, the Commissioner for Housing Development, further elaborated on the situation, stating that the headline did not accurately represent the events that took place during a recent inspection of the project site.

During the visit, which included members of the Nigerian Guild of Editors, journalists, and social media influencers, attendees were shown the project design and taken on a tour of the proposed layout. However, the commissioner stressed that the actual construction of the housing units has yet to begin.

The Kano State Government has allocated over ₦113 million for essential infrastructure at the site, which will include schools, a perimeter fence, a mosque, a market, a fire station, a police station, a cemetery, and a recreation centre. These developments are part of the broader vision for the Gida-Gida Mega City Project.

Arc. Adamu indicated that arrangements are progressing for Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf to conduct a groundbreaking ceremony for the housing units in the near future. He urged media practitioners to ensure they verify information before publication, highlighting the importance of fact-checking to avoid spreading misinformation and causing public confusion.

The Kano State Government reiterated its commitment to transparency and accurate communication regarding its housing development projects and other initiatives, aiming to keep the public well-informed about ongoing developments in the state.
