The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has made significant strides in its fight against corruption, reporting 10,872 convictions and the recovery of over N1.23 trillion and various foreign currencies during its latest three-year anti-corruption campaign. The commission's Executive Chairman, Ola Olukoyede, presented these achievements during a recent meeting with media executives in Abuja, where he detailed the commission's activities from October 2023 to July 2026.

In his address, Olukoyede outlined that the EFCC has investigated 39,615 cases and filed 14,476 cases in court, while also receiving 49,673 petitions during this period. He emphasized the commission's impressive 75.1 percent conviction-to-filing ratio, with 1,370 convictions secured from 1,889 cases filed in just the first half of 2026. Despite these accomplishments, Olukoyede acknowledged that the battle against economic and financial crimes is ongoing, citing the emergence of new threats such as cybercrime and financial fraud as significant challenges.

The EFCC chairman pointed out that the sophistication of modern crimes poses a substantial hurdle to the commission's efforts. He also highlighted the importance of internal accountability within the agency, revealing that more than 40 personnel have been dismissed over allegations of corruption and financial malpractice in the past two and a half years. Currently, over five of these dismissed staff members are facing prosecution, with additional cases being prepared against others involved in misconduct.

Olukoyede's commitment to enhancing the integrity of the EFCC includes the introduction of a new gift policy aimed at regulating the acceptance and declaration of gifts by staff members. This initiative is part of a broader effort to ensure that EFCC personnel maintain high standards of integrity while investigating and prosecuting corruption cases.
